America First Policies Launches Ad Targeting Eight Senators Undecided Over the Tax Bill
A group aligned with President Donald Trump has a new ad targeting four Democratic and four Republican senators thought to be on the fence about passing the Republican tax plan.
America First Policies is putting $500,000 behind a five-day burst of local broadcast and cable advertising in Wisconsin, Arizona, North Dakota, West Virginia, Maine and Tennessee. The ad begins airing Monday.
The 30-second spot cuts between footage of Mr. Trump speaking Sept. 27 in Indianapolis and images of families and workers overlaid with the words “opportunity,” “middle class” and “fair.”
“If you demand it, the politicians will listen,” Mr. Trump says in the ad. “Let them know you’re watching.” It concludes with the congressional switchboard number.
The spots are meant to pressure Wisconsin Sens. Ron Johnson (R) and Tammy Baldwin (D), Arizona Sens. John McCain (R) and Jeff Flake (R), North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D), West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (D), Maine Sen. Susan Collins (R) and Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker (R).
America First Policies includes former Trump campaign aides Corey Lewandowski, Brad Parscale and Katrina Pierson. As a nonprofit, it doesn’t have to report its donors but is limited in how much money it can spend backing or opposing politicians up for election. Federal Election Commission reports show the group spent about $2 million on special election ads in Georgia and Alabama.
